I got a nice long comment on my poor Star Wars multi chapter fic that I forsook when the B7 bug bit last year. It was a very kind "I hope you update soon!" that actually made me think about doing so. I feel really blocked trying to write B7--a problem I never really seemed to have with SW...probably because I mainly wrote minor characters. Maybe I should go back and write in that universe a bit and see if it unlocks a creativity potion or something.

In the meantime, I'm going to go back to cursing the fact that I've never seen a notated timeline for B7 like you get for events in the GFFA, because I really, really need one. :throws papers in the air:

You can follow the canonical procedure of "Just make some shit up, it makes as much sense as anything else."

Unless you meant, we have no show Bible, we die like Manly Men, that should be men and women. It is an equally opportunity dying show!!

And, yeah. I mean. It's the Third Calendar. How long did the InterGalactic War take, because it looked like twenty minutes onscreen and then everyone talked about it like it was WWII for the rest of the season. Just rewatch a lot and have fun. XD

I find the opposite problem - trying to write SW after DW and B7 is just amazingly complicated because people have dated everything. It's terrifying. I'm used to just go with what you know from the eps and then make stuff up. It's all wibbly wobbly timey wimey. (This counts for both; they so nearly officially the same universe as makes no difference. So if things have changed, it was probably the Doctor resetting the Dalek timeline somewhere and it made a blip.)

But, you know, updating SW fic is also good.

To be fair, the higher the tech with which a war is fought, the less time it can take. One big Kaboom! is more dispositive than a lot of wandering around hitting the guys on the other side with rocks. I've referred to it as The Short War in fics. And the better the communications, the sooner people know the results. It used to take months just to find out who won a particular battle.

But, yeah, trying to write B7 "history" is sort of like being on GBBO and knowing that you'll get dinged if all 24 scones aren't the same size...but you don't have access to scales or rulers.

It's not the short time that bothers me, but that everyone else talks about it as if it lasted as long as WWII, which doesn't seem to be the case in Aftermath!

The timeline's about as dodgy as the spaceline is. I don't mind implausible, but different every week irritates my sense of precision. How far is a spacial feeling like being this week? Is it going to take Liberator three days to cross a solar system or six hours to cover a quarter of the galaxy?

Maybe *all* the tech is as grumpy as Orac and Zen and Slave--it takes as long as your ship can be arsed to take to get you there.

In one of the fandclub magazines someone did a timeline and basically it took ages to fly from place to place, but that was just one person's view, so who knows?

It's always good to take a breather.

Sounds like you're in a bit of a rut too! Maybe flicking back to your SW for a while will dust the cobwebs out of your brain for writing in general.

I feel you with the calendar thing - I used to study the HP timeline religiously to make sure I had things in the right order/right day/right phase of the moon. Being picky like that really helps some people solidify what they're writing. I'm sure if there's things about B7 you are wondering about, there are plenty of people on the GPSC who would be more than willing to share their ideas/speculate until the cows come home.

Anyway, your advice for me the other day honestly worked WONDERS, so perhaps by now you've already worked through the fuzz and are back on track (since I notice you posted 5 days ago...) Good luck getting your groove back!
